An M&G pension may be a Prudential plan: M&G says Pru-branded plans are managed by the Prudential Assurance Company, part of M&G.

Many people searching for an M&G pension are holding paperwork that says Prudential, or Pru. This guide explains how the two names fit together and what the plans are. It also covers where members go with questions. The form on this page is open to anyone holding Pru or M&G paperwork, and a free call-back follows from an FCA-authorised adviser.

How do M&G and Prudential fit together?

M&G describes itself as "a financial services provider built around one simple belief: people deserve to feel confident about their financial future." On its customer site, it explains that a plan carrying the Prudential name, "whether that’s a product invested in PruFund, the Prudential Guaranteed Income Plan, or anything else", is managed by the Prudential Assurance Company, which forms part of M&G. The corporate page adds that the Prudential Assurance Company and Prudential Distribution Limited are subsidiaries of M&G plc.

The change that members notice is mostly visual. The firm says the M&G logo is now more visible, and that "nothing about your Pru plan, servicing or contacts are changing". Your Prudential products and benefits, the way you sign in and how you contact the teams are all listed as staying the same.

One caution on names. The same corporate page states that these companies are "not affiliated in any manner" with Prudential Financial, Inc in the United States or with Prudential plc. If an old plan sits under a company name you do not recognise, tracing a Prudential pension lists the former companies now looked after by Prudential.

Which pension plans does Prudential look after?

Prudential's pages for existing customers list these pension plans: Company Pension Transfer Plan (Bulk Section 32), Executive Pension Plan, Final Salary Pension (Defined Benefit), Flexible Retirement Plan (with SIPP options), Free Standing Additional Voluntary Contributions, Pension Choices Plan, Prudential Personal Pension, Prudential Retirement Account, Retirement Annuity Plan, Section 32 Pension, Self-Invested Personal Pension and Trustee Investment Plan.

The Prudential Retirement Account is described as "a flexible pension plan designed to help you save for retirement in a tax-efficient way, and take an income when you need it". Its investment choices include the PruFund range and a wide range of OEIC funds. Members can switch some or all of their money between funds at any time, though moving out of the With-Profits Fund could bring a Market Value Reduction. How the income side works is in taking money out of a Prudential pension, and the Prudential with-profits fund covers its with-profits funds.

Remember that the value of any pension investment can go down as well as up, so you might get back less than was paid in. If the funds, guarantees or charges on your plan are unclear, an adviser can explain the detail; the enquiry form arranges the call, free.

Where do M&G pension members go for help?

Start with the Online Service, called Pru Log In. Registration needs your policy number, postcode and date of birth. Once registered you can view your current pension value, download your latest annual statement and update your address and bank details. It supports products including the Prudential Personal Pension, Retirement Account, Retirement Annuity Plan and Section 32 Pension. Secure messaging and live chat sit behind the login, although live chat is not available to Retirement Account customers.

Otherwise, Prudential's phone number is 0800 000 000, printed on its own pages. It looks like a placeholder, but it is the genuine helpline, and the contact page says lines are open Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 18:00 (GMT). The overseas number and PruMail, for anyone acting for a customer, are in the tracing guide linked above. Prudential's customer teams are unable to give financial advice, so questions about what to do with a pot belong with an adviser.

Anyone aged 50 or over is "strongly" encouraged by Prudential to use Pension Wise, the free guidance service from MoneyHelper. To report a death, see what happens to a Prudential pension when someone dies. If you are weighing a move elsewhere, transferring a Prudential pension sets out what to check first. M&G's own advice is "If something doesn’t look right, stop and check." The FCA's guidance is on our pension scams page.

Other M&G names you may see

Not every M&G pension search leads to a Prudential plan. The corporate page names M&G Advice Partners Limited as "a network of financial advisers offering financial planning services", and the M&G Wealth Platform as supporting financial advisers and their clients. Separately, Prudential's pension pages suggest speaking to M&G Advice about financial planning or accessing a pension.

The customer site's menu also separates Workplace Pensions and Corporate Pension Solutions from the main customer area. If your pension comes through an employer, the scheme paperwork will say who runs it.

Is an M&G or Prudential pension covered by the FSCS?

M&G says the products offered by the Prudential Assurance Company Limited and other UK authorised firms in M&G plc are subject to the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. For individual pensions and investment bonds, cover is full if the Prudential Assurance Company is in default: the claim is protected up to 100% of its value, including With-Profits and PruFund funds where those are options on the plan. Unit-linked funds run by other managers have no cover if that manager were in default, and losses from poor investment performance are never covered. The same page warns that you may not always be able to claim, and that any compensation depends on your eligibility, the type of product, the funds selected and the circumstances of the claim.

Quick answers about M&G pensions

Is M&G a pension fund?

No. M&G calls itself a financial services provider, and Pru-branded pensions are managed by one of its companies, the Prudential Assurance Company. The funds inside a plan may be run by that company or by other fund managers, which affects FSCS cover.

Who regulates the company behind a Prudential pension?

On its corporate page (as at April 2026), M&G gives the Prudential Assurance Company Limited an FCA authorised number of 139793. The firm is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and answers to both that body and the Financial Conduct Authority.

Can M&G give me advice about my pension?

Its customer service teams cannot give financial advice. Prudential's pension pages suggest M&G Advice as one route, and unbiased.co.uk for finding an independent financial adviser. Another way in is the quote form here, which books you a free call-back with an adviser.

Does the rebrand change my Prudential plan?

Not according to the firm: plan, servicing, sign-in and contacts stay as they were. Keep your policy documents, as the name printed on them may be either Pru or M&G.
