General information only
Understanding Aging publishes research on aging, dementia and care in later life, and general information about pensions and equity release in the United Kingdom. Nothing on this site is personal financial, investment, mortgage, legal, tax or medical advice. We do not assess suitability, guarantee eligibility, or recommend a particular provider, product or course of action.
Our regulatory status
Understanding Aging is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. We are not a financial adviser, a lender, or a pension or equity release provider. If you submit the enquiry form, we introduce you to one FCA-authorised adviser firm. That firm is responsible for any regulated advice, any recommendation and any arrangement of a product. Check the firm and its permissions on the Financial Services Register.
Commercial relationship
We may receive a fee for introducing you to an adviser firm. The adviser firm may charge you an advice fee and may receive commission from a product provider. Before going ahead with anything, ask the firm to explain the range of products and providers it considers, all fees and how it is paid.
No outcome promises
We do not promise that an adviser firm considers the whole market, that any product is suitable or available to you, or that any particular outcome, income, rate or saving is achievable. Equity release is a loan secured on your home; it is not free money, it can reduce the value of your estate, and it may affect your entitlement to means-tested benefits. Decisions about pensions can be difficult or impossible to reverse. The free, impartial government service MoneyHelper (including Pension Wise for people aged 50 and over with a defined contribution pension) can help you understand your options.
Accuracy and availability
We aim to keep the site useful and accurate, but rules, rates, products, benefits and research findings change. Content may contain errors or become out of date. Check current information with the relevant provider, an authorised adviser or an official source before acting.
Health information
The research summarises published evidence about populations. It is not medical advice and cannot tell you anything about an individual. For your own health or care, speak to a health professional. In an emergency, call 999.
Use of the site
You may use this site for lawful personal research, and you may quote and reuse the research with attribution. Do not attempt to interfere with the service, submit false information, scrape the site in a way that disrupts it, or misuse another person’s details.
