How long does PensionBee take? It gives 12 weeks as its average for a transfer in, up to 12 working days for a plan switch and about 10 for a withdrawal.
Pension Wise, from MoneyHelper, gives free appointments on the ways to draw money from a defined contribution pot. Several pots waiting on different firms make the delays hard to total; adding up your own is something an FCA-authorised adviser looks at by phone, free, once this page's short form goes in. Every figure below is PensionBee's own estimate, dated by the page it comes from, unless another source is named.
How long does PensionBee take to transfer a pension in?
PensionBee's average is 12 weeks. Its FAQ (undated, read 26 October 2026) says: "On average, it takes 12 weeks to process and transfer your old pensions". Its guide to transferring (last edited 18 May 2026) repeats "around 12 weeks".
PensionBee points to the firm you are leaving. It says it relies on old providers for information and "some of them are quite slow", and that some post the transfer packet to you to forward on. Its terms (last edited 7 January 2026) say it cannot commit to chasing those providers, and that cash received before the paperwork is complete may sit in a non-interest-bearing account until the information arrives.
The route matters too. PensionBee is set up to receive transfers electronically, but its page on slow transfers (last edited 18 May 2026) says speed depends on the method your old provider picks: electronic, up to two weeks, or manual, up to several months. It also takes cash only: "PensionBee can only accept cash transfers." Your old investments are sold, the cash is sent, and PensionBee then invests it in your plan.
MoneyHelper gives a general span: "A transfer often takes between two and six weeks, but your provider has up to six months to action your request." Neither is a promise for your pot. The wider picture is in how long a pension transfer takes, and finding old pensions comes before any of this.
How long does a PensionBee plan switch take?
PensionBee's FAQ says: "This process can take up to 12 working days." It explains that your investment is sold to cash and the balance frozen while the switch runs. The market can still move in that gap, so reinvested money could be worth more or less than when it was sold. As with any pension investment, values can fall as well as rise, and you may get back less than you put in.
PensionBee says it charges nothing to change plan, though money managers may add small transaction costs; see PensionBee's fees. Which plan to move into is covered in which PensionBee plan is best.
How long does a PensionBee withdrawal take to pay out?
Its how-it-works page (undated, read 26 October 2026) says one-off payments "typically take 7-10 working days". A PensionBee withdrawal guide (last edited 15 May 2026) is more specific and conditional: if your bank details and identity pass its Facial Similarity Check, it "usually takes around 10 working days" to receive the money. That guide adds a limit that affects planning: "Taxable withdrawals can only be made once a month."
For a regular income, PensionBee's FAQ says its Automatic withdrawals let you pick the amount and the payment date each month. The steps themselves are in how to withdraw from PensionBee, and pension drawdown explains the option behind it.
How long does a transfer out of PensionBee take?
The clock starts when your new provider sends PensionBee everything it needs. PensionBee then aims to move the money within 14 days to most FCA-regulated personal pension companies using Origo Options, the electronic transfer system. Its terms say the same, as 14 calendar days. Its FAQ gives an average of 10 days to other UK regulated providers.
Other routes are slower. Because of scam risks, PensionBee says it must do extra due diligence, which may depend on third parties such as HMRC, and it says a transfer could take "up to six months (the legal deadline for pension transfers)". If the new provider is not set up for electronic transfers or is not FCA regulated, the terms say the transfer may take six months or longer, and PensionBee may refuse it. Steps and limits are in how to transfer out of PensionBee.
What can slow a PensionBee transfer down?
- Safety checks. PensionBee says identity and advice requirements "can slow down the transfer process, but are designed to protect your interests and your assets". If the old provider raises an amber flag, it gives you a MoneyHelper link to book a session, and you need the reference number from that session to continue. The Pensions Regulator tells pension schemes that most requests "are likely to be straightforward" and should finish well before the six-month deadline. See pension transfer rules and the FCA's pension scams page.
- Guarantees or a final salary promise. PensionBee says that if an old pension has guaranteed annuity rates or a final salary promise worth over £30,000, it sends you the full paperwork to review before transferring, and that you must take advice from an FCA-regulated adviser first. Those steps come before any money moves. Whether guarantee checks add days or months on a scheme like yours is worth raising when the adviser calls after you send the form here; it costs nothing. In law, £30,000 is measured against what the guaranteed (safeguarded) benefits would transfer for, not the whole pot; see the advice requirement and final salary pensions.
- Mismatched details. If a provider reports a National Insurance number mismatch, PensionBee's terms say the money may be invested meanwhile, normally within 5 working days of the transfer being confirmed and received. Until the number is corrected you cannot transfer out, switch funds, withdraw or contribute.
Fees on a move are in pension transfer fees.
PensionBee timing points people ask about
Is there a cut-off time for PensionBee withdrawal requests?
PensionBee says requests made before 12pm on a working day get a trade request that day, and later ones may be processed the next working day. A request sent after noon on a Friday may therefore not start until the following Monday, bank holidays aside.
Why does my PensionBee balance lag the market?
Changes in the market show up two to three working days after they happen. PensionBee says its insured funds have unit prices calculated once a day, after the event, rather than in real time.
How long can I cancel after opening a PensionBee plan?
PensionBee's terms give a statutory cooling-off period of 30 days to cancel your application. See transferring out of PensionBee for what happens to the money.
Can I switch plan before my transfer has finished?
PensionBee says that once your online account set-up is complete you can switch straight away, and that you can switch at any time once the transfer is done. A switch then takes up to 12 working days, as above.
With a firm date in mind, such as a retirement start, an FCA-authorised adviser can work backwards from it; the quote form here brings a no-charge callback. For PensionBee's overall record see is PensionBee good.
